Showtime

Since gaining the registration, I've been fortunate enough to get the Twingo to a few shows in the last few weeks; gaining in distance travelled and so far without any major issue.

Firstly a visit was made to the July Haynes breakfast club meet at Sparkford, in the past it's been a good event but has become a bit of a draw for the 'pop n bang' modifying brigade. Other commitments meant I didn't stop too long.

The next event was the Queens Square Breakfast club meet in Bristol, this event normally taking place in the large open Queens Square but it so happened that this event was scheduled to take place on the Amphitheatre on the attractive Harbourside area and on my 40th Birthday no less. I was fortunate to get an entry place for the organiser as as the pictures above and below show, the Twingo was rubbing shoulders with a mixed selection of cars on the day. I had to find shade as it was a blisteringly hot day but had some lovely feedback about the car on the Facebook group.

Fuelled Focus photography take the credit for this image of me arriving at the Harbourside.

Last event for July was a trek up to Lincolnshire for the Haggerty Festival of the Unexceptional. An event designed to celebrate the mundane cars you just dont see everyday now as the ravages of time and bangernomics take hold. Remarkably FOUR Mk1 Twingos attended the event with Chris Williams delightly original early 93 car in the reserved concours line up. Three more including mine were on display in the spectator parking zone. It was great to meet other owners from the excellent Mk1 Twingo group on Facebook. A very handy resource for UK Twingo fans. It was a near 430 mile round trip, the furthest the plucky Twingo has been since gaining a registration. It passed off without incident and was reasonably comfortable. The Twingo seats are very comfy but I did find the car stretched at 70mph on the motorway and it became a bit tiring. The return journey I did was via A-roads for much of the route where the car seemed a bit happier.
At Festival of the Unexceptional, my Twingo keeps company with David Austin's lovely 1996 example. You may notice from the pictures that my Twingo now has numberplates in a UK Renault dealer style, and with the correct 1990s style font. A little gift to myself from RetroPlates.

The next planned show is the Tewkesbury Show on 22nd August, a bit closer to home and I now have an entry ticket for the Simply French show at Beauleigh in September.
